Girls basketball roundup: Dawson-Boyd downs Bluejays

DAWSON — The Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team hung on to down Central Minnesota Christian 56-50 on Saturday in a Camden Conference game.

Justine Lee played a superb game for the Blackjacks, with 24 points, 9 assists and 6 steals. Teammates Mari Lee scored 17 points, Katarina Kuhlmann had 9 points and 4 assists and Kelly Husby finished with 10 rebounds.

CMCS’ Jaclyn Swart led the Bluejays with 15 points and Alexis Scott, Danielle Wubben and Abby Zwart all scored 8 points. Scott also had 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

KMS 68, Lakeview 66

Ali Clark made a basket in the lane on a pass from Samantha Dunn with four seconds left and also intercepted the ensuing Lakeview inbounds pass to lift the Fighting Saints.

The last four minutes of the game was a one-possession game and KMS corralled a rebound on a Lakeview miss at the foul line with 44 seconds left. The Fighting Saints held the ball for 40 seconds to set up Clark’s winning bucket. KMS did have a 14-point lead at one point in the first half.

Clark finished with a game-high 21 points with Dunn added another 16 along with 7 assists. Maddi Standberg chipped in 9 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for KMS (8-5, 13-6). Katie Wilts added 9 points and 8 rebounds, and Haylie Helms 4 steals.

Brianna Hoffman had 20 points and Corbyn Wee 19 for the Lakers (4-9, 9-15).

BOLD increased its lead in the West Central South, winning its 12th in a row with a 70-50 victory over Benson on Saturday.

Carly Sigurdson led the Warriors (11-2, 19-3) with 22 points and 4 assists, and Baylie Kubesh had 21 points and 8 rebounds.

Benson’s Emma Peterson scored a game-high 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double.

Peterson broke Benson’s career scoring record during the game, and ended with 1,514 points, topping Abby Fragodt’s previous mark of 1,498.

BOLD and Benson play a rematch on Tuesday in Olivia.
