WHEATON — Three free throws and a two-point basket was all Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg needed to shut out Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in an extra period Thursday as the Fighting Saints outlasted the Warriors 62-57 in overtime in a non-conference game.

KMS (8-14) led 27-26 at halftime and got two free throws from Kalli Forsell with 4 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime tied at 57. Forsell opened the scoring in the extra period with a two-pointer and two free throws from Maddi Strandberg, who scored a game-high 23 points, and another free throw from Elizabeth Wilts followed to complete the scoring.

Forsell finished with 19 points, while Katie Wilts chipped in 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 points. Ali Krieger added 7 points and 7 rebounds, and Strandberg another 5 assists.

Jordan Stafford scored 20 points for the Warriors, who had an early 19-11 lead before KMS went on a 16-7 run to end the first half.

The Fighting Saints are at Ivanhoe on Monday to play Lincoln HI in their regular-season finale. The two teams will meet again three days later in Kerkhoven for a Section 3A-North playoff game.

A low-scoring game for both teams, the T-Hawks held Lac qui Parle Valley to just 11 first-half points.

Alexis Schmitz scored 13 points with 5 rebounds for Montevideo (16-5), and Lexi Quigley had 5 points had 12 rebounds.

Jessie Janisch collected 4 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Kaitlin Connor had a game-high 15 points for the Eagles (13-8).
