VICTORIA — Holy Family belied their record with a dominant inside game and a steady hand at the free throw line.

The Fire outrebounded New London-Spicer 48-26 and hit 12 of 14 foul shots to down the Wildcats 65-57 in a Wright County Conference game Friday.

Fire post players Michaela Rasmussen and Molly Smith combined for 36 points.

“They hurt us inside,” Wildcats head coach Mike Dreier said. “Rasmussen and Smith controlled the inside.”

NLS’ Taylor Thunstedt had 32 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.

Ashlyn Geister finished with 10 points and Megan Thorson had 4 points and 7 boards.

The Wildcats play at Glencoe-Silver Lake at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Dragons finally began their Wright County slate with a road game at Hutchinson. Three times the Dragons made up a 12-point deficit in the second half, the last time tying it 45-45 with 20 seconds left.

The Tigers’ Traci Schwantes, a 5-foot-5 junior guard, sank her third 3-pointer of the night for all 9 of her points and a 48-45 lead with 14 seconds left. Litch was unable to get off a shot to tie.

Hannah Norlin, Litchfield’s 5-11 junior center, nailed 20 rebounds to support her 13 points. Kyndra Beavers followed with 12 points and then Macy Huhner and Mariah Hoff with 8 apiece.

Madison Christie’s 11 points led the balanced Hutch offense.
