Girls basketball roundup: KMS rallies past Dawson

KERKHOVEN — In a matchup of undefeated teams, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg handed Dawson-Boyd its first loss, coming from behind to down the Blackjacks 54-44 on Friday.

Trailing 30-21 at the half, KMS (5-0, 7-0) turned it around, outscoring Dawson-Boyd (3-1, 7-1) 33-14 in the second half.

Samantha Dunn led the Fighting Saints with 12 points, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Maddi Strandberg notched 11 points and hit two 3-pointers, and Ali Clark nabbed 13 rebounds.

KMS next plays Jan. 3 at home against Canby.

It took two overtimes for the MACCRAY girls basketball team to edge Lakeview on Friday night in a Camden Conference game.

The Wolverines tallied two free throws in the final 25 seconds of the second overtime for the winning points.

Ali Siverhus led the Wolverines with 24 and Brooke Gould had 17. Taylor Grussing scored 10 points and led MACCRAY with 16 rebounds.

Aleah Schwitters had 6 assists and Gould had 5 steals.

Corbyn Wee scored 29 points to lead Lakeview.

Ashley Hoehne, a junior forward, poured in 25 points and Tia Diggins supplied 11 points and 9 rebounds for the T-Hawks, who improved to 4-1 in the WCS.

Down by five at half, Benson, which won an overtime game the night before, seemed to run out of gas in the second half and netted only five field goals and 16 points.

Monte’s Torey Kuhlmann added 9 points and 9 assists, Natalie Feldhake 8 points and Jessica Jaenisch 4 points 11 rebounds and 3 steals.

Alexa Nissen canned four 3-pointers for the Braves (1-3, 3-6) for a team-high 16 points. Emma Peterson chipped in 14 points and 4 steals.

The BOLD trio of Baylie Kubesh (21), Carly Sigurdson (19) and Taylor Ebnet (15) combined to outscore the visiting Thunderbirds 55-39.

Maggie Nagel added 9 rebounds and 8 points to the mix for the Warriors (7-2). Kubesh also had 8 assists and 5 steals, and Sigurdson and Ebnet each had 5 steals as well.
