Girls basketball roundup: MACCRAY rallies past Lakeview

CLARA CITY — MACCRAY rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half and downed Lakeview 45-43 on Saturday in a Camden Conference game.

The Wolverines, who trailed by eight at the half, pulled ahead with about two minutes to play and held on down the stretch to break a seven-game losing streak.

Brooke Gould scored 17 points and had 5 steals for the Wolverines. Taylor Grussing finished with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 steals.

Aleah Schwitters had 7 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.

The Wolverines compete their regular-season schedule today against Lac qui Parle Valley in Clara City.

Katie Holzheimer broke the Morris/Chokio-Alberta career record for 3-point field goals and the Tigers defeated Breckenridge 48-43 on Saturday.

Holzheimer entered the game tied for the career mark with 109 and she hit three of the Tigers’ four treys.

Beth Holland led MCA with 13 points and Holzheimer had 11. MaKenzie Smith scored 9 points and Kaitlin Vogel had 5 points and 8 rebounds.

The Tigers play at Sauk Centre at 7:30 p.m. today.

The West Central North Conference champions were in fine form Saturday, with 11 players working into the scoring column in a 58-35 win over Paynesville.

The Mainstreeters remained undefeated in the league at 13-0 and they are 22-1 overall.

The Bulldogs fell to 8-5 in the league and 12-10 overall.

Macy Weller led the balanced Sauk Centre attack with 13 points.

Paynesville’s Brooke Wuertz scored a game-high 14 points and she also had 3 assists and 2 steals. Erika Schlangen had a game-high 8 rebounds.
