NEW LONDON — Orono, ranked No. 8 in Class AAA, won its 11th straight after upending New London-Spicer 63-53 in a Wright County Conference game Friday.

The Spartans, the only unbeaten team in the conference, handed NLS its second loss in its last three games. Orono improved to 14-6 overall and the Wildcats dropped to 7-3 in the conference and 15-4 overall.

Taylor Thunstedt drained 7 of the Wildcats’ 8 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 31 points. Orono, which got 24 points from sophomore Meghan Mandel and led by 20 at one point in the second half, shot 55 percent from the field while the Class AA No. 7-ranked Wildcats fired at a 46-percent clip.

Ashlyn Geister followed with 9 points and added 4 rebounds, as did Tori King. Thunstedt also pocketed 5 steals while Megan Thorson pulled in a team-high 5 rebounds.

NLS hosts Waconia in a makeup from Jan. 16 on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

Jessie Janisch followed with 9 points and 3 assists with Morgan Reidinger pulling in a team-high 6 rebounds.

CANBY — Alaysia Freetly and Kaitlin Connor combined for 35 points but it wasn’t enough for Lac qui Parle Valley to overcome Canby’s  Ricki Kallhoff on her milestone night.

Kallhoff scored 15 points and surpassed 1,000 career points in the Lancers’ 59-51 win Friday in a Camden Conference game.

Canby’s Morgan Merritt finished with 11 points and 11 assists, and Natalie Dinius scored 12 points. Kallhoff also led the Lancers with 7 rebounds and she made three steals.

Freely led the Eagles with 18 points and Connor added 17 points.
