NEW LONDON — The Wildcats polished off Hutchinson 65-43 to end the pre-playoff campaign 21-4.

At 10-4, New London-Spicer finishes in a tie for second place with Dassel-Cokato in the Wright County West, a game out of first behind Annandale at 11-3.

The Cats led the Tigers 25-15 by intermission.

Junior Taylor Thunstedt piled up 30 points but also provided 7 assists, plus 5 steals.

Brianna Fredrick kicked in 7 points and Lydia Kieft and Olivia Setterberg 6 apiece.

Monroe Julius hit for 11 points to top the Tigers.

Melrose rallied from a near double-digit deficit late to drop the Tigers to 12-3 in league play.

Emily Goerdt scored on a layup with 15 seconds remaining after getting set up from a Tayler Reller pass to break a 51-51 tie for Melrose (6-7, 8-18). The Tigers (16-8 overall) got off a couple of shots afterward, but the clock ran out on the visitors.

McKenzie Smith scored 19 points, Katie Holzheimer 12 — on 4 three-pointers — and Beth Holland 10 for Morris/Chokio-Alberta. Becca Holland added 10 rebounds, 6 points and 4 assists.

Reller led Melrose with 15 points and Goerdt finished with 14 to go along with her game-high 11 rebounds.

MACCRAY 40, RCW 37

Ashley Dirksen hit a key 3-point shot in overtime, helping the Wolverines hold off Renville County West in a Section 3A playoff opener on Thursday in Clara City.

The teams were tied at 34 at the end of regulation, and MACCRAY’s Aleah Schwitters scored to open the scoring in overtime.

After RCW hit a foul shot to pull within one, Dirksen buried her 3-pointer to put the Wolverines up 39-35. The Jaguars’ Grace Robertson hit two free throws in the final seconds to pull her team within two, but Ali Siverhus hit a free throw in the final 17 seconds. RCW looks at the basket to tie but couldn’t convert.

MACCRAY hit 6 of 6 second-half foul shots while the Jaguars missed all five of their free throws after halftime.

Taylor Grussing had 12 points and 5 assists and Schwitters finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Brooke Gould had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Nora Kronlokken led the Jaguars with 12 points, Sadie Treml had 10, Robertson finished with 6 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals, and Steph Wersal scored 5 points and grabbed 10 boards.

The Wolverines advanced to play sub-section top-seed Minneota at 11 a.m. Saturday in Montevideo.

The Mustangs’ season came to an end after shooting just 27 percent (16-for-60) from the field and committing 24 turnovers in a play-in game against their Tomahawk Conference rival.

Hannah VanderVoort scored 17 points, pulled in 5 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and pocketed 2 steals to pace BLHS (2-20). Michelle Melsha grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and Erika Zanoth hooked another 10.

Paynesville did a solid defensive job on ACGC star Sydney Larson and the Bulldogs downed the Falcons in Paynesville on Thursday.

Bryanna Burg led the Bulldogs with 17 points, Rachel Ampe had 14 and Eric Schlangen had 13.

Ampe and Rachel Rittenhouse both grabbed 10 rebounds.

ACGC’s Erica Melbie led the Falcons with 22 points but the Bulldogs’ defense limited Larson to 4 points. Larson finished with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
