Girls Basketball: YME tops TMB; LQPV also gains in 3AA-North

Yellow Medicine East and Lac qui Parle Valley advanced after winningSection 3AA-North quarterfinal games on Saturday.

Montevideo and BOLD were ousted from the tournament.

YME (18-6), the No. 2 seed, held off upset-minded 7-seed Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 51-45, while No. 3 Lac qui Parle Valley beat No. 6 Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 52-49.

No. 4-seed BOLD was upset by No. 5 Redwood Valley, 57-43. Top-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran drubbed No. 8 Montevideo 50-41.

On Tuesday at Windom, Minnesota Valley Lutheran will take on Redwood Valley at 6 p.m., followed by Yellow Medicine East and Lac qui Parle Valley at 7:30 p.m.

YME 51, TMB 45

The Sting (18-6) went on a 16-0 run in the second half after the Panthers (6-19) started the half with seven straight points.

Steph Larson sank three 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and five assists to pace YME. Courtney Hinz had 13 points and five assists, and Angie Scheffler scored 11 points and had nine rebounds. Emily Baker pulled down 15 boards.

Kate Johnston scored 13 points and Ashley Daniels added 12 for TMB.

Jessica Fischer scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Cardinals (8-17). Julia Busiahn added 11 points.

Carly Sigurdson was the only BOLD player to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points. Brittany Dahlk added eight points and 15 rebounds.
