Girls golf: Setrum gets 4th All-CLC nod in home finale
WILLMAR — The Willmar Cardinals finished fifth on their home grounds in ideal conditions and full sun Thursday evening in the final Central Lakes Conference meet.
Senior Raelin Setrum received All-CLC first-team recognition a fourth straight year. Junior teammate Megan Iiams missed honorable mention by a fraction of a stroke.
Setrum has been in coach Jodi Mottinger’s lineup starting in seventh-grade, the spring of 2008. She played No. 2 to Katie Kroona her first two seasons and has been No. 1 since her freshman year.
She finished eighth among CLC individuals after shooting 90, her highest score in the four meets. That score was thrown out, however, in the final computation leaving her a three-meet average of 83 strokes per 18-hole round. That ranked eighth overall.
Sophomore Marja Sorenson of Rocori and 2012 champion Jenny Muesing, a junior, of Brainerd both shot 79 while playing in the same threesome. Sorenson was season-medalist with an average of 77.33 to Muesing’s 77.67. The next three places went to Alexandria: Amanda Bigger (79.0), and Emily Thul and Brynn Novontny, both 81.33.
Setrum will attended Minnesota State Mankato next fall and play for the Mavericks at the NCAA Division II level.
Alexandria repeated as the conference champion with Rocori the runner-up.
Next up for Willmar is the Section 8AAA Tournament June 3-4 at Long Prairie.
