Girls Golf: Sommerfeld wins 5AA meet; 2 other Dragons also to play in state meet

BECKER -- Litchfield's Kennedy Sommerfeld won the Section 5AA championship by two shots on Monday at Pebble Creek Golf Course and will join teammates Alex Tipka and Danielle Elam in next week's Class AA state golf tournament.

Sommefeld shot a 36-hole total of 163 to edge Raelyn Spears of Providence Academy who finished at 165.

Tipka shot 179 to finish in a three-way tie for fifth with Anna Zumwinkle of Breck and Tabitha Lapzig of Maple Lake.

Elam shot 182, good for eighth place overall and a spot in the state meet.

The Dragons shot 706 overall, nine strokes behind meet champ Providence Academy. Only the section winner advances to the state meet. The first day of competition was last Thursday.

The state tournament is June 12-13 at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

Willmar's Setrum advances to final round in 8AAA

Raelin Setrum of Willmar advanced to the final round of competition in the Section 8AAA tournament by shooting an 89 Monday at Long Prairie Country Club.

Setrum's teammate Carlee Bach missed out advancing as well by just one stroke. Alexandria and St. Cloud Tech were tied after the first day at 341. The top four teams advanced with Willmar tying for seventh.

The final round starts today at 10 a.m. in Long Prairie.
