Girls Golf: Waska easily wins 3AA title; 3 others from area qualify for state tourney
WILLMAR -- Minnewaska Area breezed to a 48-shot victory on Thursday at Eagle Creek.
The margin is no surprise.
Behind a pair of two-over par 75s from co-medalists Brianna Janu and Sarah Roering, the Lakers posted a team score of 304 to run away with the Section 3AA girls golf title.
The four-time defending state champions also shot a 304 at last year's state tournament, when they beat second-place Red Wing by 67 strokes.
The Lakers, who are new to the section, have five starters back from that team. Jackson County Central, who won the section on this same course a year ago, had no chance and settled for second with a 352.
The Lakers shot the low four scores: Allie Ostrander was a shot off the leaders with a 76 followed by Sam Falk at 78.
Area individual qualifiers were Chloe Altmann of BOLD in a tie for fifth with a 79, and Kristen Solbrack of Litchfield and Lauren Alsaker of Benson/KMS tied for ninth with 84s.
The Class AA state meet is June 16-17 at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
