WILLMAR — Behind a sweep by Stephanie Thompson, the Willmar Cardinals scored a season-best — by four points — to defeat Sauk Rapids 139.975 to 124.075 on Thursday.

Thompson had personal-bests in all-around (36.5) and bars (8.9).

“Stephanie had a great meet and it was a great night for the entire team,” said coach Jodi Mottinger.

“We only had one fall on the beam,” she added, citing another highlight.

Thompson scored 9.15 on vault, 9.2 on beam and 9.25 on floor in a superlative evening at the Kennedy gym.

Brooke Graves hit 9.0 on vault to finish runner-up. Kendall Hein scored 8.8 on beam in a fine performance and would have scored higher but for a slip at dismount.

Alexis Miley, Hein and Graves were clustered behind Thompson on floor scoring from 8.975 to 8.8.

Willmar takes a break from competition until Jan. 4, at the Marshall Invite.
