Girls Hockey: Cards move on to semis

WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals have advanced to the Section 2A semifinals thanks to a 5-1 win over Mankato West on Thursday.

Scoring goals were Paige Davis, Annie Johnston, Kylee Hulscher and Brooke Mayer (2).

It was the final game in Cardinal Arena for five seniors.

Willmar travels to No. 1 seed Mound Westonka High School on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game, the winner advancing to the championship game at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Feb. 16.

"We controlled play when we were the aggressor," said head coach Jason Mayer. "Baylie Young had some big stops, especially

in the first period."

Willmar improved to 14-9-2; the Scarlets end up 4-21-1.
