Girls hockey: L/DC falls to Mirage in consolation
MINNEAPOLIS — The Proctor/Hermantown Mirage scored the game’s first three goals and went on to defeat Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at Ridder Arena.
The loss in the Class A consolation semifinals eliminates the Dragons on their first trip to the state tournament.
Just 46 seconds into the third period, Sarah Kvisto ended the shutout bid with a shorthanded goal giving the Dragons new life. But nothing changed until the last minute when the Mirage finished it off with an empty netter.
The Duluth-area team outshot LDC 31-20. Jillayne Gilbert and Karie Lenard each scored twice for the Mirage.
The Mirage (19-10) lost to St. Paul United 5-2 on Wednesday and Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato lost to top seed East Grand Forks 8-1.
The Dragons finish 10-19 and with their first section championship in girls hockey.
