Girls Hockey: Sing's hat trick sparks Willmar

WILLMAR -- Ali Sing netted a hat trick Tuesday to help Willmar collect its first win of the season as the Cardinals upended Marshall 3-1 in a non-conference game.

Chelsey Wierschem assisted on all three goals to give the senior forward five points on the year.

"Ali Sing played well and we peppered their goalie," said Willmar coach Rick Dahle. "The girls controlled the play and kept working hard."

The Cardinals (1-2) host a four-team, two-day tournament starting Friday. Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and Morris/Benson Area meet at 6 p.m. followed by Willmar and Mankato East at 8 p.m. on Friday. The winners will play 7 p.m. on Saturday in the championship while the losers will battle for third place at 5 p.m.

Seven Morris/Benson Area players scored goals.

Sara Rajewsky and Monica Lindblad scored the game's first two goals 13 seconds apart in the first period, then the teams four times before the Storm popped in the last two unanswered from Katia Vantries and Brooke Anderson.

Dani Schultz, Dani Staples and Emily Rajewsky also scored for MBA (2-1). Schultz finished with two assists.

Brooke Falk had 14 saves in the Storm goal.
