Girls hockey: Tonka toys with Cards in 7-0 win

MOUND — The White Hawks set the tone early scoring twice in the game’s first minute at Mound West Tonka’s Thaler Arena on Thursday.
By the end of the first period Willmar trailed 5-0 and would return to their bus without a goal in a 7-0 loss to a Section 2A rival in girls hockey.
“It didn’t go the way we’d hoped,” said Willmar coach JaColby Anderson. “Mound is very disciplined and physical. They used their speed to capitalize and execute. They wanted it more.”
It was Willmar’s first loss in section after four wins.
The Cards were outshot 49-26.
Forty-two saves by Willmar netminder Maddie Sandberg were not enough in the Hawks 49-26 advantage in shots on goal.
Willmar’s next game is also on the road at Sartell on Saturday.
