AUSTIN -- The Willmar girls hockey team scored three straight goals to overcome a 3-2 deficit and beat Albert Lea 6-4 in the first round of the Austin Invite Monday.

Willmar (8-4) plays the winner of the Northern Edge (Rheinlander, Wis.) and New Prague game at 4 p.m. today in one semifinal.

The teams traded goals in the first period, then Albert Lea's Sophia Jepson gave her team a 3-2 lead at the 8:12 mark.

"We'd score, then they'd come back within a minute or two," said Willmar coach Chad Akerson.

Kayte Cole tied the game with a powerplay goal and Ali Sing gave the Cardinals a 4-3 lead with three minutes left.

Willmar's last two goals were on the powerplay from Jennie Mattison and Cole.

"We just took over in the third period with the possession of the puck," Akerson said.
