Girls soccer: Alexandria blanks Willmar

WILLMAR -- Two goals in a five-minute span early in the second half propelled Alexandria past Willmar 2-0 Tuesday in a Central Lakes Conference match.

"We dominated the first half," said Willmar coach Chelsea Brown. "We controlled the ball, but in the second half it was unfortunate that we couldn't clear the ball out."

Brown also noted that Willmar just missed a penalty kick after the northern Cardinals capitalized on a penalty kick in the 47th minute.

Willmar was outshot 11-3, but the final score was a lot closer than the first meeting of the season.

"We lost 7-0 to them earlier," said Brown. "We've seen much improvement since then."

Willmar hosts CLC rival Sartell this Thursday in another Homecoming Week match.
