WASECA -- A goal just before halftime propelled Waseca past Willmar 3-0 Monday in the first round of the Section 2A playoffs.

"We generated a lot of offense in the first half," said Willmar coach Chelsea Brown. "We played neck-to-neck with them, but that fluke goal took the wind out of (us)."

The No. 6-seeded Bluejays (9-7-1) scored again midway through the second half before scoring during a battle in front of the Willmar (3-13-1) net late in the match.

"We don't even know who scored their last goal because Jordan (Martins) made a beautiful save and then she got pushed into the net," said Brown. "The girls played with a lot of heart this year and they are the true definition of a team."

Martins made 10 saves for Willmar as Waseca outshot the No. 11 Cardinals 13-5.

The Cardinals will have plenty of experience coming back next year as 15 players on this year's 24-man roster were underclassmen.
