Girls swimming & diving: Litch’s Warren 2nd after prelims
MINNEAPOLIS — Litchfield senior Marissa Warren is second in the 100 butterfly after Tuesday’s preliminaries at the Class A Swimming and Diving State Meet held in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Warren, who was third in the same event last year as a junior, trails only the defending state champion in the event, Danielle Knack of Mankato West. Warren is the eighth place in the championship heat of the 100 backstroke, an event where she finished second a year ago at state.
The Litchfield 200 medley relay is 10th and the Willmar entry 15th, so both will swim in the consolation heat.
Willmar senior Kennedy Holwerda swam exactly her seed time and advanced to the consolations of the 50 freestyle in 14th place overall.
Willmar junior Alycia Holwerda tied for eighth in the breaststroke and then lost a swim-off for the final spot in the championship heat. She is today’s top seed in the consolation heat.
The Willmar 400 freestyle relay was 2.49 seconds over seed and failed to make the consolation heat in 17th place.
The final day of competition begins at noon today.
