Girls Tennis: Cardinals sweep up Otters in the rain
FERGUS FALLS -- The Willmar girls tennis team won 5-0 on Thursday in a Central Lakes Conference match with Fergus Falls that was ended with two matches in progresss.
The victory improved the Cardinals' record to 3-2 in the CLC and 5-3 overall. They play next at the Monticello Invitational on Saturday. The tournament also includes Becker.
On Thursday, rain fell off and on throughout the match. Since Willmar had enough points to win the match, play was suspended. Cardinals' 1-singles player led 2-0 in the third set when her match was called, and the 2-doubles team of Waverly Slette and Leah Ramon had their match suspended before the third set.
Willmar's 1-doubles team of Heather Horning and Kassy Linbo led 4-1 in the opening set when Fergus Falls had to default because of an injury.
"We barely got it in but it was another nice win for the girls," said Willmar head coach Jim Anderson.
