Girls Tennis: Cards outduel Sabres to extend win streak
WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals breezed in the late afternoon heat, draining Sartell 7-0 on Tuesday in Central Lakes Conference girls tennis.
The Cardinals (4-3, 8-3) have now won five straight.
"Our girls played well despite the hot, windy conditions," said Willmar coach Jim Anderson.
The mercury was into the 90s, as predicted, in bright sun.
Sartell has a young team and only got close at 2-doubles where it finished 6-4, 6-4 in favor of Willmar's duo of Waverly Slette and Leah Ramon.
Bailey Hovland didn't lose a game at 3-singles, while Gabie Bierbaum at 1-singles, Heather Horning/Kassy Linbo at 1-doubles and Tayva Vollan/Megan Andresen at 3-doubles all won a set without Sartell winning a game.
Cayle Hovland at No. 2 and Hanna Hansen at No. 4 also won for Willmar.
"Our game plan was to play steady, get our serves in and keep our returns in play," Anderson explained.
Next up for Willmar -- Rocori at Willmar at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
