Girls tennis: Minnewaska players bounced from state
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnewaska's singles and doubles entrants were both eliminated in the first day of the Class A State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament Thursday at the Read-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.
Lakers junior Ellen Stensrud was swept 6-0, 6-0 by Sonya Das of St. Paul Academy and Summit in the opening round of singles competition before falling 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation quarterfinals to Claire Christian of United South Central.
Minnewaska junior Rachel Riley and sophomore MaKenna Hanson also went 0-2. Riley/Hanson fell 6-1, 6-1 to St. Paul Academy and Summit's Sarah Hays/Gina Nguyen in the first round and then was upended 6-2, 6-4 by the St. James duo of Megan Lahti/Michaela Nelson in the consolation quarterfinals.
