Bierbaum, who won 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round on Thursday, upended Sauk Rapids junior Katie Ford 6-4, 6-0 Friday. Bierbaum, the South's No. 2 seed, will meet North's No. 3 Karlee Jorgenson of Thief River Falls today at 8:30 a.m. in the quarterfinals.

The semifinals are at 12:30 p.m., while the championship and third-place matches are at 3:30 p.m. and if needed, a true-second match will be played at 6:30 p.m.

"Gabie was figuring out her opponent's weakness in the first set and then she did what she's been doing all season in the second set, a two-handed backhand," said Willmar coach Jim Anderson on Bierbaum's win Friday. "She was driving it cross-court. That's her signature shot."

Willmar's other singles entrant, seventh-grader Cayle Hovland, lost 0-6, 0-6 to No. 1 Taylor Tarrolly of St. Cloud Tech in the second round. Willmar's doubles teams of seniors Heather Horning/Kassy Linbo and Waverly Slette/Leah Ramon both lost their second-round matches.

Horning/Linbo fell 5-7 in a third-set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets, 1-6, 6-4, and Slette/Ramon lost in straight sets, 1-6, 1-6.
