North Korean leader Kim Jong Un suspends nuclear and missile tests, shuts down test site

NEW LONDON -- Glenda Catherine Johnson, 96, of Minneapolis, formerly of New London, died Sunday at Ebenezer Care Center in Minneapolis.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in New London.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She was born Sept. 17, 1912, near Rhame, N.D., to Darwin and Anne (Larson) Johnson. The family moved to a farm in Colfax Township, Kandiyohi County, when she was young. She attended grade school in District 10 and continued her education at Morris Agriculture High School. The family moved to Willmar in 1938 and she worked various jobs in the grocery business.

At the start of World War II, she moved to Seattle with a friend and worked for Boeing Aircraft. After the war, she returned to Minneapolis and worked at Honeywell until her retirement when she traveled and then moved to Willmar to care for her parents. Following their deaths she moved to Minneapolis.

She had been a volunteer at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

She is survived by a son: Dean (and Nancy) Johnson of Roseville; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; siblings: Lila Evans of Willmar, Laura Lou Sandstrom of Golden Valley and James Johnson of Spicer.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
