HECTOR -- Gloria Olive Johnson Solum, 84, of Hector, died Thursday at Prairie View of Hector.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. Burial will be in Palmyra Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and for one hour before the service Monday at the church.

She was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Palmyra Township, Renville County, to Gustav and Olianna Sognen (Anderson) Nelson. She grew up in Palmyra Township and attended District 46 School. She earned a GED and became a licensed practical nurse. Over the years she was engaged in farming and worked as a nurse at the Renville County Hospital and the Buffalo Lake Nursing Home.

She married Clarence Swanson in September 1942. They lived in Palmyra Township. He died in October of 1953.

She married Arthur B. Johnson on Jan. 5, 1957. They lived in Palmyra Township and moved into Hector in April of 1974. He died Oct 12, 1987.

She married Lawrence Solum on Sept. 19, 1992. They moved to Eden Prairie in May of 1996. He died in August of 1999.

She moved to Summerhouse Senior Apartments in Bloomington in March of 2004, and she returned home to Hector in June of 2006, living in Prairie View of Hector.

She was named the Minnesota Mother of the Year in 1977. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector, and throughout the years held memberships in Palmyra Covenant Church, Palmyra Lutheran Church, Prairie Lutheran Church of Eden Prairie and St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Bloomington. She was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible study leader, was active in circles and ladies aid and was on the lefse teaching crew at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

She was a member of the Palmyra Couples Club, Sons of Norway, American Red Cross, General Federation of Women's Clubs, Hospital Auxiliary, was a 4-H leader and a chapter mother of the Future Homemakers of America. She volunteered at the VA Hospital while living in the metro area and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children: Annette (and Steve) Wildenauer of Bloomington, Brenda (and Terry) DeSchepper of Bloomington, David Swanson of Des Plaines, Ill., Terry (and Steve) Sutherland of Coon Rapids, Vivian Kyhn of Apple Valley, Sheryl Johnson in Ohio, and Elaine (and Curt) Colvin of Seattle, Wash.; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; daughters: Ardis Johnson Hauer and Marlene Swanson Larson Nassen; and an infant brother.
