Golf: Barber, Jacobson 10th at Best-Ball
OWATONNA — Aaron Barber and Andy Jacobson finished 10th on Wednesday at the Minnesota Golf Association’s 52nd-annual Best-Ball Tournament held at the Owatonna Country Club.
Jacobson, of Eagle Creek Golf Club, and Barber, out of Little Crow Country Club, were part of a two-way tie for first with a 6-under 65 after Tuesday’s opening round. The pair scored four birdies on the front and three on the back, against a single bogey. Barber, a former PGA Tour professional who has regained his amateur status, birdied the 191-yard ninth hole.
On the second day, birdies were harder to come by — just one the front nine by Jacobson — to offset a bogey and an even par 36, which lost ground to some hot twosomes. The back nine was the same story: a birdie and a bogey for even-par 71 and a 136 total.
Jordan Hawkinson and Jesse Larson, of Chisago Lakes Golf Course and LeSueur Country Club, respectively, were tied for first with the local golfers at 65 after Day 1. They got even better on Wednesday, with a 64 for a 129 total, 13 under par, and a one-stroke win over two other duos.
The 91 pairs on Tuesday were cut to 44 teams for Wednesday’s final.
Other results for players with local connections: Ryan Alsleben, Litchfield GC, and Joe McCormick, Crow River, shot 68-68 to tie for 10th; Joey Dreier, Little Crow, and Josh Polingo, Litchfield Golf Club, shot 69-74 to tie for 35th; and Josh Hagstrom and Ryan Walsh, both out of Koronis Hills in Paynesville, shot 74 on Tuesday and tied for 60th.
