WILLMAR -- Gordon Walter Carlson, 73, of rural Spicer, died March 1 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a battle with cancer.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Spicer City Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
He was born March 29, 1935, on a farm in New London Township to Walter and Mabel (Fossum) Carlson. He attended country school in Harrison Township and graduated from Atwater High School in 1953.
He married Joyce Buer on June 14, 1957, in Atwater. They lived on the family farm in Harrison Township and he raised cattle and hogs. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in New London and was on the church board, mission board and taught Sunday school. He was involved in 4-H, NFO, Farmers Union and served on the Atwater School Board for nine years. They spent 17 winters involved in mission outreach work with Youth with a Mission.
He is survived by his wife; five sons: Layne of Minneapolis, Todd (and Becky) of New London, Dean (and Mary) of Atwater, Joel of Kandiyohi and Eric (and Karla) of Cottage Grove; five grandchildren; and one sister: Marlys (and Wayne) Orred of Spicer.
