Quale also faces first- and second-degree assault charges for the July 17 stabbing of Michelle Young, 48, in his Granite Falls home. Young suffered numerous knife wounds.

She was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis after being stabilized at Granite Falls Hospital.

The court was informed during Wednesday's hearing that Young has been released from hospital and is improving, according to Yellow Medicine County Attorney Keith Helgeson.

According to the criminal complaint, Quale allegedly called Yellow Medicine County dispatch around 8 a.m. July 17 requesting an ambulance and stating "I stabbed Michelle.''

Quale is currently held in Yellow Medicine County Jail with bail set at $300,000.
