Gravel pit accident victim recovering
WILLMAR -- Jason Anthony Hamstad, 34, of Willmar, is recovering at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis after being injured in an accident Thursday at the Monson gravel pit north of Willmar.
Hamstad, 34, was injured at approximately 2:40 p.m. Thursday, while working on a conveyor belt when the accident occurred.
A Caring Bridge website set up for Hamstad reports that his arm had to be amputated.
He fell 20-feet and suffered four broken bones in his neck and four in back.
According to a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office news release, Hamstad was airlifted from the scene to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He is currently on a ventilator and resting in Surgical/Neuroscience ICU at HCMC. The Caring Bridge website reports that he has surgeries ahead of him.
The accident is being investigated by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
