Greg Swalin April 16, 1950 - Dec. 11, 2012
SPICER Greg Swalin age 62 of Spicer passed away peacefully of a heart attack on the night of Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at his home in rural Spicer. Memorial service will be 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at a later date in Vikor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 7:00 pm on Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Gregory Jon Swalin was born on April 16, 1950 in Willmar, the son of Clifford and Virginia (Larson) Swalin. He grew up in Willmar where he graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1968. Greg began working in road construction for Duininck Inc. after graduation.
Greg was united in marriage to Linda Lindstrand on September 25, 1976 at Vikor Church in rural Willmar. The couple lived in rural Atwater, in Willmar, and later in rural Spicer.
Greg was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He was a lifelong member of Vinje Lutheran Church where he volunteered as a van driver, and especially enjoyed working at the lutefisk supper.
In 1980, Greg began working as a salesman for Perkins Lumber in Willmar where he worked for 32 years. Greg enjoyed his job and visiting with his colleagues and friends at work. His genuine personality and willingness to help others is what all his customers will remember most. He enjoyed hunting deer, ducks and pheasants, and fishing with his family and friends. He was a member of The Breezy Point Hunting Club and a pictionary group that met monthly. Greg was a simple man who was content with the simple things. He was well liked by everyone he met. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father, and the happiest grandfather.
Greg is survived by his wife Linda of Spicer, son Lafe (and Jolene) Swalin of Atwater, granddaughters: Janey and Lyti; parents, Cliff and Virgie Swalin of Willmar; brother, Grayson (and Karen) Swalin of Willmar; nieces: Chelsea (and Justin) Malone of Apple Valley, Whitney (and Quenton) Lind and great-nephew, Gray all of Litchfield; sister-in-law Kathie (and Richard) Harris of Belgrade; nieces: Saisha Harris of Minneapolis and Tajie Harris of Philadelphia.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents.
