Grove City man in jail, assaulted man, rammed vehicle along Highway 12
GROVE CITY — A 57-year-old Grove City man is in the Meeker County Jail facing assault and property damage charges for allegedly assaulting a man Tuesday afternoon along U.S. Highway 12 near Grove City.
According to the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, William Richard Dugan had parked his vehicle across the driving lanes of the highway, attempting to stop all vehicle traffic so he could look for his dogs. The incident was reported around 2:35 p.m. by several 911 callers near the intersection with 515th Avenue.
Several vehicles, both east- and westbound on the highway, slowed down, and then drove on the shoulder around Dugan’s vehicle.
A 53-year-old Clara City man drove around Dugan’s vehicle and there was contact between the two vehicles. Dugan allegedly exited his vehicle and attempted to strike the man with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber.
The men struggled over control of the piece of lumber and the Clara City man broke free and retreated, along with the passenger in his vehicle, to a location behind another vehicle.
Dugan then got back into his vehicle and rammed the victim’s vehicle in the driver’s side of the Clara City man’s car and then drove toward the man and his wife and tried to strike them with the vehicle.
The couple was able to move out of the way and avoid being struck.
Dugan then drove a short distance away and exited his vehicle when law enforcement officers, including the State Patrol, arrived at the scene.
