WILLMAR — The West Central Conference multi-year champion Melrose Dutchmen were already in good form at the Kennedy gym Tuesday, scoring 144.525 to Willmar’s 135.625 in the season opener.

The Dutchmen return all five starters from last year’s section champion and Class A runners-up to New Prague.

Lydia Butkowski scored 37.225 to win all-around with Jailyn Brinkman just behind with a 37.125.

Stephanie Thompson and Alexis Miley finished third and fourth in all-around to lead Willmar, which was missing two regulars.

Willmar co-head coach Jodi Mottinger said highlights included Morgan Hamstad finishing fourth in vault after sticking her Tsuk.

“We also scored well in bars overall led by Kendall Hein with an 8.75 in her first varsity meet,” said Mottinger.

Alexis Miley finished third in floor with a 9.15 followed by Thompson at 9.1.

Willmar hosts St. Cloud Tech on Thursday.

Courtney Henjum won beam and floor and tied for first at vault with teammate Erica Clancy to win top all-around honors for New London-Spicer in its season debut.

Mya Rohman finished third in all-around after placing second in beam and tying for third in vault, bars and floor.
