Gymnastics: Thompson, Willmar win at New London

NEW LONDON — Stephanie Thompson won three events and earned the all-around crown to lead the Willmar Cardinals’ gymnastics team to a 137.025 to 127.65 win over New London-Spicer in the Wildcats’ middle school gym on Tuesday.
Thompson won bars, beam and floor. The Cardinals’ Haley Mottinger won vault with a 9.4.
Mya Rohman finished fourth in all-around to lead the Cats to a season-high score.
NLS senior Lauren Dietz had a season-best 7.7 on the bars.
Wildcats’ senior Haley Stahl, out since very early in the season with a broken hand, may be back in one event on Thursday when the Wildcats compete against Annandale at the Middle School gym again.
Thompson scored 35.475 in all-around followed by Mottinger at 34.525 and Cassie Johnson at 34.175.
