Hallis L. Matson Jan. 31, 1922 - April 6, 2013

SPICER - Hallis L. Matson, 91 of Spicer, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Sunburg Free Lutheran Cemetery.

Arlene Hallis Lorraine Eliason Matson was born on Jan. 31, 1922 on the family farm in Norway Lake Township, the daughter of Halvor and Alma (Spaunem) Eliason. She attended grade school in District # 59 near Sunburg and Brooten High School, graduating in 1940. She worked in Willmar before her marriage to Donald Matson in Nov. 16, 1940 in Spokane, Washington. To this union three sons were born. They made their home in Washington for a short time before moving to New London. In 1949, they moved to Lake Norden, South Dakota where they owned and operated a grocery store and meat market. In 1967 they moved to Pierre, SD where she worked at the state capital for elementary education and was a supervisor of a copy and printing center. They moved to Minneapolis in 1975 where she worked at Moore Data Management Systems. They retired to Spicer in 1986. Hallis and Don were able to share in 51 years of marriage before his death on Dec. 7, 1995. Hallis was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards and going out to eat.

She is survived by sons, Terry (Bev) Matson of Bemidji, Larry (Nancy) Matson of Sioux Falls, SD and Todd (Nancy) Matson of Linwood; seven granddaughters, Kristy, Monica, Kelli, Jessi, Danielle, Amie, Katie; six great-grandchildren and sister, Iva-Dell (Jim) Gorans She was preceded in death by her husband, Don and brother, Leland Eliason. www.hafh.org
