Handgun fired during law enforcement interview in Clarkfield, Minn.
CLARKFIELD -- A handgun was fired in a struggle with law enforcement during an interview Tuesday at a home in Clarkfield.
According to a news release from Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten, no one was injured in the incident.
Agents from the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation on Tuesday morning were at the 800 block of Ninth Avenue in Clarkfield in western Minnesota to interview an individual regarding an ongoing investigation in South Dakota, and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office was providing security assistance.
During the interview, the person being interviewed produced a handgun. The interviewing officers began to struggle with the person, and during the struggle, the gun discharged. Nobody was hurt during the struggle or from the weapon discharge, according to Flaten.
The weapon and the scene were secured by assisting officers.
Sheriff Flaten said it is an ongoing investigation, and further information would be forthcoming at a later time.
Assisting the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota DCI with the incident are the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Yellow Medicine County Attorney's Office and Yellow Medicine County Family Services.
