Harlan Knudsen Feb. 8, 1917 - Nov. 17, 2009

SPICER -- Harlan Stephen Knudsen, 92, of Spicer died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Green Lake Lutheran Church in rural Spicer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Kingsbury County, S.D., to Alfred and Anna (Steffensen) Knudsen. He grew up on a farm near Diamond Lake and attended country grade school in District 27.

He married Norma Sims on Feb. 14, 1940, in Arctander Township. They made their home in Belgrade and New London townships a short time before moving to the Bass Lake Farm in 1943. They moved to the Diamond Lake Farm in 1946, where they farmed and resided until moving to GlenOaks Care Center in 2005. He was a member of Green Lake Lutheran Church, the Farmers Union and Atwater Creamery Board for many years.

He is survived by his wife; children: Merna (and Chuck) Pease of Litchfield, Arlyss (and Jack) Engelson of Kandiyohi, Craig (and Brenda) Knudsen of Atwater and Jeanne (and Tim) McKenzie of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings: Erma Miller of Atwater, Thoretta (and August) Hoffer of Kandiyohi, Gordon (and Marilyn) Knudsen of Kandiyohi and Ramona Perron of Winsted.

He was preceded in death by his son: Marlin; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers.
