Harley Gort May 11, 1925 - Feb. 12, 2013
WILLMAR - Harley Gort, age 87 of Willmar formerly of Roseland died February 12, 2013 at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar. His funeral service will be 1:30 pm, Saturday at Roseland Reformed Church in Roseland with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm, Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Harley was born on May 11, 1925 in Roseland, Minnesota the son of Isaac and Rynee (Brouwer) Gort. He attended country school. He entered the United States Army on February 1, 1944 where he served his country during WWII. He received a Purple Heart and later a Bronze Star. He received an Honorable Discharge in January of 1946. Harley was united in marriage to Alice Knapper on June 17, 1943 in Roseland. The couple lived in Roseland where Harley began livestock trucking. He was a self-employed trucker for many years. Following his retirement he began working for Huisinga Farms. Harley and Alice moved to Willmar in 2004. Following Alices death on April 14, 2005, Harley continued to live in Willmar and later entered the nursing home.
Harley was a member of Roseland Reformed Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #167 in Willmar.
Harley enjoyed camping in his camper and visiting with friends over morning coffee at Friedas Café or Cashwise.
Harley is survived by his children: Mike (and Jone) Gort of Marshall, Brad Gort of Montevideo, Brian (and JoAnn) Gort of Murdock, LeAnn Rhode (and Kevin Rache) of Spicer; 17 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his wife, Alice, Harley was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jackie Arlyn, granddaughter, Alisa Lynn Rhode; great-granddaughter, Megg Alice Jensen; brothers: Henry, Herman, John, Sidney, Clarence and Selmer.
