Harold Peterson Dec. 29, 1927 - June 1, 2013
DANUBE - Harold Peterson, age 85, of Danube died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville with Rev. Paul van de Crommert as celebrant. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville and continues at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service.
Harold Oscar Peterson was born December 29, 1927 on the family farm in Crooks Township, rural Danube, Minnesota to Arthur and Mabel (Larson) Peterson. Harold grew up in Danube and graduated Valedictorian from Danube High School in 1945. He started farming on the family farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Harold spent two years in the Army testing machinery in Alaska and Washington. When he returned home he continued farming the family farm with his brother Melvin. On June 6, 1955 Harold married Doris Maertens at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent, Minnesota. To this union they were blessed with seven children. Harold continued farming and living on the family farm where he grew up. Besides farming he also enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards with friends and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Harold is survived by his wife Doris Peterson of Danube; his six children: Nancy (and Mark) Kurtz of Grand Rapids, MN, Kenneth (and Julie) Peterson of Staples, MN, Bennett (and Lisa) Peterson of Detroit Lakes, MN, Jeffrey (and Marcie) Peterson of Watertown, SD, Mary Jane (and Brian) Hilbert of St. Cloud, MN and Vicki (and Grant) Lanka of Monticello, MN, his 15 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and his 9 great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gary Peterson, and his four siblings: Violet Licklider, Ethel Smith, Ardell Peterson and Melvin Peterson.
