SPICER -- Harold Vernon Steffen, 80, of Spicer, died Wednesday at his home.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Raymond.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred.
He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Raymond to Francis and Francina (Van Kraanen) Steffen. He grew up in Raymond, graduated from Raymond High School and attended Mankato Business College and Dunwoody Institute. He took over the family business, Steffen Implement Inc. in Raymond. He served in the Minnesota National Guard.
He married Gwen TeHennepe on Aug. 5, 1950, in Baldwin, Wis. They lived in Raymond. In the 1970s, he purchased Luecks Implement in Danube and then built a new implement shop in Olivia a couple of years later. He was a partner in building the Downtowner Apartments and Elcaba Apartments in Raymond. They moved to Green Lake in Spicer in 1983.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club, served on advisory committees for the Minnesota branch of Case and the diesel mechanics program at the Willmar Technical College. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; three sons: David (and Judy) Steffen of Raymond, D.J. Steffen of Bird Island and Robert (and Kathy) Steffen of Watkins; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters: Mildred Radunz and Marion (and Don) Hayunga, both of Raymond.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
