Harris M. Ronning March 20, 1924 - May 9, 2009
DAWSON -- Harris Mervin Ronning, 85, of Dawson, died Saturday at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
He was born March 20, 1924, in Dawson to Herman and Hannah (Swenson) Ronning. He graduated from Dawson High School in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946.
He married Eloise Ellefson on Oct. 22, 1944, in Dawson. After the war, they lived in Dawson and he began what would be more than 60 years in woodworking and construction as the owner of Dawson Woodworking and Ronning Construction. He was a lifelong member of Riverside and Grace Lutheran Church and served on the church property board. He was a member and past commander of the VFW and American Legion posts in Dawson, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Dawson Development, the Masonic Lodge, Western Minnesota Shriners, Boy Scout Troop 322, the Trail Riders Horseback Club and the Blizzard Busters Snowmobile Club.
He is survived by his wife; son, Kurt (and Rebecca) Ronning of Rapid City, S.D.; two granddaughters; sisters: Irene Westgaard of Dawson and Opal (and Harold) Johnson of Alexandria.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Camille Ronning-Goewey in 2005; two brothers; and one sister.
