Harvie L. Obar Sept. 26, 1922 - July 27, 2009
DASSEL -- Harvie Lee Obar, 86, of Dassel, formerly of Litchfield, died Monday at Lakeview Ranch in Dassel.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington. Burial with military honors will be in Arlington City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
Memorials are preferred to the Dementia Foundation.
He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Girard, Texas, to Ivy and Exa (Tullos) Obar. He moved to Globe, Ariz., and worked at a hotel.
On June 17, 1942, he married Evelyn Lorraine Olson in Whiteriver, Ariz., and they lived in eastern Texas. He served during World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the U.S Army 242nd Field Artillery in Germany. They lived in Arlington, Minn., for almost 40 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Arlington American Legion. He served on the Arlington City Council and was an elder at Peace Lutheran Church. He worked for Central Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1984. They moved to rural Eden Valley and lived there for 17 years before moving to Litchfield. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
He is survived by his wife; children: Claudia Hahn of Moose Lake, Eugene "Gene" (and Marie) Obar of Eden Valley and Mark (and Cindy) Obar of Litchfield; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a brother: Claud Obar of Troup, Texas.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother and a great-granddaughter.
