Hazel Reed Aug. 12, 1910 - Feb. 9, 2009
REDWOOD FALLS -- Hazel Reve Reed, 98, of Redwood Falls, died Monday at Walker Methodist Nursing Home in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Mankato.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and for one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials preferred to Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, P.O. Box 64233, St. Paul, Minn. 55164-9423.
She was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Ekalaka, Mont., to Conrad and Anna (Bush) Myhre. The family moved to Cleveland, Minn., where she grew up. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1927. She attended Mankato Teachers College and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter where she received a bachelor of arts degree in 1931. She taught at Cokato High School, Redwood Falls High School and Austin High School.
She married Thomas Reed Jr. in 1941 and they lived in Redwood Falls. She taught at Redwood Falls High School from 1962 until she retired in 1978. She was a member of the Philolectian Study Club, Redwood County Horticulture Society, Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, Solorlag of Minnesota and Minnesota Retired Teachers Association. She belonged to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she served as president and secretary of the women's organization, taught Sunday school and was a member of the altar guild and various circles.
She is survived by her daughter: JoAnn Reed (and Lee Sundermeyer); and two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.
