Hazel Sordahl Sept. 20, 1919 - Jan. 24, 2013
WILLMAR - Hazel Sordahl, 93, of Willmar died Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Bethesda Heritage in Willmar. Her funeral will be 10:00 am, Monday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar with burial at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials may be made to Bethesda Heritage.
Hazel was the first child born to Homer and Alta (Stottler) Carpenter on September 20, 1919, in a farmhouse near Pipestone, MN. Most of her childhood was spent in the Kerkhoven community.
Hazel married Carl A. Anderson and to this union two daughters were born. Carl preceded her in death. On August 20, 1977, Hazel was united in marriage to Arthur Sordahl in Willmar. Following their marriage they lived in Willmar. Art preceded her in death on September 12, 1999. Hazel became a resident of Bethesda Heritage following a debilitating stroke on July 7, 2007.
Hazel was a member of Vinje Lutheran, where she was active with the church women. She enjoyed making quilts. Every relative can claim possession of at least one, plus several she made for other people. She loved to visit with friends and traveling, via bus trips and airplane. She boasted visiting every state except Alaska and even traveled to Norway to visit Arts relatives.
Surviving are her daughter, Carol (and Dennis) Jeppesen of Council Bluffs, IA; grandson, Brian Jeppesen of Harrisburg, PA; sister, Pauline Dupre of Minneapolis; two nieces and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by parents, infant daughter, Sandra Jean Anderson; two brothers, Earl Carpenter in WWII and Wayne Carpenter.
