BROOTEN -- Hazelle Rose Nelson, 96, of Brooten, died Wednesday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was born June 16, 1912, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, to Arthur and Rose (Kittelson) Blomberg. She grew up on a farm south of Glenwood, attended school in Brooten and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1930. She then went to normal training and worked as a teacher at various rural schools before working as a clerk at Nelson's Store in Brooten.
She married Aldrich Nelson on June 5, 1938 in Glenwood. They lived in Brooten and summered at Lake Linka. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten where she participated in the ladies aide, quilting, taught Sunday school, helped start the church library and participated in circle and Bible study. She was a charter member of Brooten's Zetetic Study Club, a member of the Red Hat Society and a community volunteer.
She is survived by her daughter: Susan (and Paul) Lemmer of Litchfield; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; one step great-grandson and a brother: Philip Bentrud of New Brighton.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982; a daughter: Patricia Stewart in 1983; one brother; and one sister.
