Head on crash injures two in Swift County
SUNBURG - Two people received multiple injuries Sunday evening in a head-one crash on a gravel road in Swift County.
A six-year old girl, who was a passenger in the one of the vehicles, escaped injury in the 5:30 p.m. accident that happened in Kerkhoven Township, about 4 ½ miles northwest of Sunburg on 140th Avenue Northeast.
According to the Swift County Sheriff's Department, the preliminary investigation indicates a Ford Focus driven by Greg Heuring, 57, of Benson, was going south when it collided head-on with a northbound Pontiac Grand Am driven by Trista Larson, 24, of Kerkhoven.
Both vehicles collided in the northbound lane.
Larson sustained multiple injuries and was transported by Kerkhoven Ambulance to Rice Memorial Hospital. Larson's six year old daughter was a passenger and appeared to have escaped injury due to the use of a properly installed child safety seat, according to the sheriff's department.
Heuring sustained multiple injuries and was transported by Sunburg Ambulance to the Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Swift County Sheriff's Deputies, Sunburg Fire Department, Sunburg Ambulance, County Line First Responders and Kerkhoven Ambulance Service responded to the crash, which remains under investigation.
