Hearing on Ditch 52 outlet near Willmar, Minn., scheduled

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Commissioners will conduct a public hearing at 11 a.m. Tuesday on a petition for a drainage ditch outlet into Kandiyohi County Ditch 52 from farmland from Meeker County.

This will be the second hearing on the issue.

At a hearing in April, the commissioners heard a report from an engineer hired by the petitioner and listened to attorneys and residents from those supporting and opposing the ditch outlet.

On a split vote at that time, the commissioners agreed to authorize another study from a different engineer on the condition the county would not incur additional expenses.

That report is expected to be presented, along with additional testimony.

The hearing is part of the County Board of Commissioner's regular business meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. at the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building.

Other items on the agenda include a presentation from the Kandiyohi County Lakes Association and action on the phase II final report on the county's redesign plan.

The commissioners will also take action on the 2013 natural resources block grants, setting the market price for solid waste management tax, conditional use permits and action on using county state aid highway funds.

The commissioners will meet as the Family Services Committee at 9 a.m. Items on that agenda include approval of contracts and an update on the Southern Prairie Community Care program.

The commissioners meet on the second floor of the Health and Human Services Building, 2200 23rd St. N.W., Willmar.
