Heat advisory issued today for most of west central Minnesota

WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a heat advisory in effect today from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m. for all of central and southern Minnesota, including Pope, Stearns, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Yellow Medicine and Renville counties.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot weather is expected.

Temperatures will range from the upper 90s to lower 100s. The highest temperature will be along the Minnesota River Valley. Heat indices will range from 100 to 105 across the region.

The weather service advises those who plan to be outside remain hydrated, take breaks, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.
