Heat warning issued, in effect to Thursday evening, try to stay cool

WILLMAR -- The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for all of central and southern Minnesota through 10 p.m. Thursday.

This is an upgrade of the heat advisory issued Monday for much of the region.

Over the next three days near record temperatures, in the mid-90s to 102 degrees, plus dew points around 70 degrees will create apparent temperatures of 105 to 110 degrees.

Little relief is expected until tonight and Wednesday night, but lows are only expected to fall to 70 to 75 degrees across the region. In the urban center of the Twin Cities, lows may not fall to below 80 degrees.

Those citizens without air conditioning or working outside should use extreme caution and drink plenty of fluids. Seek relief in air conditioned environments when possible.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. The forecasters remind that heat stroke is an emergency and to call 911.
