A winter storm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning and includes the Willmar area and areas around Benson, Glenwood, Granite Falls, Madison, Montevideo and Morris.

Heavy snow is forecast to quickly develop Tuesday morning and likely last into Tuesday night across west central and central Minnesota. The heaviest snow will likely fall Tuesday morning and afternoon, including areas north of a line from Canby to Willmar to Mora.

Snowfall amounts could range from 5 to 10 inches in the watch area, with locally higher amounts of 12 inches or more possible.

Winds gusting to 30 mph will likely reduce visibility, and there is the potential for temporary blizzard conditions.

Travel could be treacherous Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
